The Cook Islands consists of 15 Islands scattered over some 2 million square kilometers of the Pacific Ocean. Rarotonga is the largest of the islands and hosts the international airport and Avarua, the main township, has a good choice of restaurants, shops and hotels. Rarotonga is easily accessible - it takes only 40 minutes to drive around, so it is like one big resort where you can easily go from pampering to paddle boarding; from kayaking to cocktails; from island hikes to island nights. Lagoon Cruises are a must-do! You’ll snorkel, have a BBQ lunch and enjoy entertainment with coconuts, pareus (sarongs), music and some island laughter.
Aitutaki is the Cook Island’s second most visited island. A little paradise means Aitutaki, home to approximately 1800 people and the world’s most beautiful lagoon. It's only 220 kilometres or a 50-minute flight from Rarotonga. Secluded and romantic, 15 motus (islets) are sprinkled across this huge turquoise, sunlit lagoon. You will think you have reached heaven when you arrive – if you can’t spare the time to stay here - a day trip to this piece of heaven is highly recommended.
